Thanksgiving break

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Despite the economic downturn, we can still find comfort with our families. I'm taking a break this week and will return after the holiday. Stay tuned.

For your enjoyment, here is a picture of my favorite hometown flower of the season: winter plum blossom, taken by my sister in January. I can almost smell its fragrance from Chongqing.

Winter plum blossom is my favorite, too! Happy holiday!

That's not plum blossom, but wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox). It is also one of my favorite fragrant flowers. Alas! I can only enjoy its fragrance from the small bouquet in my vase, outside all I can smell is the filthy air in horriblly polluted Chongqing!!!

There is a "forest" of wild wintersweet bushes somewhere in the mountains in Hubei and another even larger forest of Osmanthus fragrans (桂花)trees in Baoxing (宝兴)county, Sichuan. I have long wanted to visit those two places...

Anony, glad we share a common favorite. As far as I know, and I checked again with my plants book, both "winterstweet" and "winter plum blossom" are used as common names for 梅花。
